I Believe The Internet Has Now Been In Existance For 40 Years. Happy Anniversary!

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

Well, it is now 4 decades since the internet was initially used. Who would have thought, in those early days, how great it would end up in such a fairly short period?

I recall, as a small child, contemplating how lucky were inventors like Alexander Graham Bell, being able to invent the telephone. Others had invented wireless, television, cinecamera. What was there left for those of my generation to think of? It is fortunate for us others had more foresight than I did. We now benefit from CDs, DVDs, mobile telephones and many other wonderful items which I could not have envisaged as a child.

On the fortieth anniversary of the internet, it is interesting to view the changes we have seen in the use of computers over this period. In the early days, there was no w3, so the internet was not the same as we think of in 2009 when we say we use it.

Not every business had use of computers forty years ago, let alone people having multiple PCs in their house. Even as late as the 1990’s the company where I worked had just one PC which would connect to the internet and all members of staff had to access this in order to connect with the internet.

In those days, the idea of using a search engine was completely alien. Now Search Engine Placement is understood, by both businesses and individuals, to be an important part of internet experience. Seo companies have started up, in order to help businesses improve their search engine positioning.

Businesses, likewise, will search for an seo company which they feel have the skills to improve their Online Marketing results. They know how important it is to be on one of the first pages of any search results so that they can capture extra trade and will select an SEO Company which they believe will give them value for money.

Due to the fact that laptops are now relatively affordable, quite a few houses will have more than one. They are small, do not require dedicated studies, wires and cables, which look untidy. Children find them invaluable for research for homework, using search engines to help in this, whereas parents will use them to search for businesses which can give them the necessary information for reference purposes, or locate businesses which will supply to their requirements.

Social networking sites have also found their niche, and this is a fantastic way for individuals to keep in contact with friends, relatives and colleagues in an informal fashion. Before these came about it was all too easy to lose contact with people once they were no longer in their daily lives.

I am very happy that other individuals can come up with inventions to improve my daily life, and this all makes me think about what we will be seeing forty years from today – inventions currently in their infancy or not yet even conceived.
